Frequently Asked Questions 

What do I have to do?
Do as much or as little as you can-- no commitment is needed.  Check out the week's theme (go to our Calendar page to see the whole month's themes), and then choose something to cook that fits the theme.  When you complete a theme dish, share the recipe and your thoughts (photos encouraged!) on our Facebook group page or here on the blog.

What kinds of themes will there be?
The theme could be anything, and it will range from star ingredients to global cuisines to methods of cooking. Each theme is designed to give you flexibility and inspiration-- the only requirement is that you cook a healthy meal.

Are there any rules?
The Project is designed to keep everything as flexible as possible (this is supposed to be fun and motivational, not homework!), and so we only have one guideline: the whole idea here is to celebrate healthy cooking, so whatever you decide to cook should be healthy and home cooked.  Other than that, feel free to interpret the week's theme in whatever way you choose.

What if I miss a week?
No problem.  You're always welcome to jump back in at any time.  We'd love for you to challenge yourself to do as many weeks in a row as you can, but there are no minimum requirements to participate. 

Do I have to cook dinner?
Nope! In fact, some themes will specifically encourage us to cook other meals or courses.  In any week, feel free to cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, drinks, or anything in between!

What makes a dish "healthy"?
Feel free to stick to whatever healthy dietary guidelines you choose.  We follow a balanced omnivorous diet, and we encourage the use of fresh produce, lean protein, dairy, and whole grains.  As with other parts of the Project, though, everything is flexible!

I'm vegetarian/vegan/celiac/lactose intolerant/allergic to shellfish/keeping Kosher/etc.  Will the themes work for me?
Although we will try to make the themes as broad as possible, we may sometimes have themes that are difficult or impossible to complete with certain dietary restrictions.  If your diet makes you uncomfortable with the week's theme, here are a couple of suggestions: (1) adapt a recipe that fits the theme to your diet, and then share the recipe and the results; (2) create a personal challenge for the week-- resolve to use something you don't often use, or to cook in way you haven't before; or (3) try another recipe from the previous week, or get a jump on the next week's theme.

When can I post my theme dish?
Anytime! We'd love to see your results as soon as you cook them, but feel free to share whenever you get the chance.
